College has allowed me to overcome struggle in the classroom and prove to myself that I am smarter than ever! (Disclaimer: Determination required! College is tough!) You CAN get through it with the help of your peers, professors and tutoring. I have discovered who I am and what my vision in life is. I have built public speaking skills, learned to organize events and be an involved campus leader. I have met many new friends and developed everlasting bonds with my sisters of Kappa Delta Chi Sorority, Inc. and my brothers of Alpha Phi Omega. I have developed professional networks through TRiO programs which help low-income, minority and first generation college students like myself. College has shown me that I can beat the system! That I can do anything!

I’m 20 years old and I’m currently studying for a Bachelor of Arts degree in the film department at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Even though I’ve always wanted to be an actor, I wanted to keep my options open in case I change my mind later on. Studying film helps me with that by providing a variety of options from screenwriting to film editing that can pique my interest. While in college, I plan on taking part time jobs to help me raise money for acting classes. I also hope to pursue one of the careers my major has taught me such as a film editor or a director of photography and move my way up to a director or screenwriter in case I don’t decide to be an actor.

I am 19 years old and currently attend College of Southern Nevada. I plan to have my associates of arts with an emphasis in psychology by the end of this summer. After that I plan on pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Psychology at UNLV, and eventually get my Master’s and PHD so that I can be a clinical psychologist. When I was younger I wasn’t exactly sure of what I wanted to do when I grew up, but I did know one thing for sure—that I wanted to go to college. It wasn’t until high school where I discovered an interest in psychology, the mind, and interpersonal relationships. I have been told I am a really good listener, and I like to listen to people, so I already have a good quality in my favor to help me in the field!

I am a first generation college student so going to college and pursuing a profession is something very important to me and is a part of who I am. I see a long road ahead of me full of new knowledge and experience which will help me be successful. Hooray for the future!

ments, activities, programs and organizations. I have 2-3 years now working with at-risk youth through the Latino/a youth Leadership Conference and I LOVE IT! Our youth take us more seriously than ever by observing how we contribute and change the path for them. I have finally found my passion and with what I plan to do after with my degree will show with my actions to lead others in the right direction.

I was born and raised in Las Vegas, and being here in Nevada is all I’ve known. I graduated from Silverado High School with high honors and an advanced placement diploma. I am currently in my sophomore year at UNLV majoring in psychology with a minor in business administration. After completing my undergraduate degree at UNLV, I do plan on attending graduate school furthering my journey in the field of psychology. Aside from my studies, I am an active collegiate member of my sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha. I’m also in my second year of coaching colorguard at Silverado. Being a full time student with so many other commitments as well as being employed at the Board of Regents office may be overwhelming at times, but I know it will only add to my becoming a more responsible and successful adult. Throughout my life my parents have always instilled in my twin sister and I the importance of what an education can do for us and our futures; this is just the beginning of finding out what is in store for the rest of our lives.

I am currently attending CSN at the Henderson campus, and taking online classes as well. I feel that college is important to me because it gives me a chance to discuss ideas with others, and learn new ways of understanding social and political situations that I have always seemed to wonder about without ever getting a proper answer. I am a secondary education major, hoping to be a High School science teacher. My education will help shape the rest of my life and the way I go about doing the normal daily acts I have been doing so far in life.

Currently I am studying civil engineering at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.  My academic goals are to graduate from UNLV with my bachelors in Civil engineering as an Honors student. I really enjoy how broad the engineering field is and how much “wiggle” room I have to grow. Currently my passion in engineering is in waste water management, construction management, and petroleum engineering. My current ambition is to attend graduate school as a petroleum engineering student and incorporate waste water management in drill sites. My goals in life have always been centered on helping others and by helping keep the water clean on the drill site; I’d be helping my minimizing pollution in the water.  My goal is life to to give back to the community that helped me grow to the woman I am now and the woman I plan to be in the future.

I graduated from CSN last fall in 2011, with an associate’s degree in Business Marketing and Advertising. I’ve always looked into business because of the immense possibilities for your own future, and the creation of jobs for others. I have been able to exploit my knowledge of business through the music industry, as part of a successful reggae band, HALEAMANO.

I have created marketing campaigns, and promotional strategies to attract people to our business. I use business etiquette to get in contact with music venues and the casino industry, and develop entertainment contracts. This has helped me excel in both my musical talents and my business knowledge. Even though I’ve graduated, I would still love to venture into more learning avenues such as: Architecture, Web Design, and Mechanics.

I was going down the wrong path at one point in my school life and future career. Till I encountered a teacher named Mrs. Bouchard at A-Tech every since meeting here I have completely changed and now I am at UNLV on a full scholarship and now I understand the value of school and how valuable life really is.

I currently work and go to school and even though I am very grateful for everything that UNLV gives me I have never encountered a teacher like my speech and business communications teacher. Thanks to her and the Nevada Schools system, although flawed, I have goals and aspirations in my life. Nevada and the Clark County school district have given me the tools to succeed.

I was born in Guadalajara, Mexico and moved to Las Vegas with my family when I was four years old.  Very early on, my parents instilled in me the importance of an education and determination.  Through life’s hardships, I have always found a way to make school my main priority.  I graduated from ATECH (Advanced Technologies Academy) in 2010 with an honors diploma and completion of the business and finance program offered.  I am currently a sophomore at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, studying business and eventually attaining a degree in marketing.  Though being a full time student and a full time employee can be strenuous, I know that it will all be worth it one day.  What I want most of all is to make my parents proud and for them to see that their sacrifices weren’t for nothing. I am determined to do something great with my life, and I know I will.
